Armour Collages
When I was trying to figure out what to draw for the cover of my Armour zine I went around in many convoluted circles trying to come up with the right image. For whatever reason I decided that the cover should be collaged out of photocopies of the internal illustrations (?) and I spent a week of the first COVID lockdown making increasingly insane photocopy and Pritt-stick creations.
In the end I made a ton of collages, and happened upon one idea that felt almost right for the cover (below). Of course I then redrew and painted this collage for the final illustration, just to complete the insane circle of making a painting, collaging it and then painting that collage...
The whole process of making this zine about a character in quilted armour lead to me focus on actual quilt and textile projects, and without going through the - at the time, insane and pointless feeling - process of making these collages I’m not sure I would have started making appliqués a year later.
Armour is available to buy here.
